Rules

  • The contest is individual.
  • During the contest, discussing the problems with other contestants or anyone else is forbidden.
  • No AI assistance of any kind during the contest: no chatbots, no coding assistants, no agents.
  • One account per person.
  • Only the pretrained models and data provided with each problem are allowed.
  • Every submission must include the code that produced it.
  • For each problem, an explanation of your reasoning and solution is mandatory: written by you without AI, as short or as detailed as you like. Together with the code, it is used to identify cheating, and cheaters are excluded from the contest. Without it, the problem is not scored.

These rules and the prize terms may change before the contest starts: the version that applies is the one shown on this page when the contest begins.

Prizes

€100

Winner of the overall ranking

€100

Best secondary school student eligible for IOAI 2027

Paid by bank transfer or PayPal, after a video call in which the winner explains their solution. The student prize requires proof of eligibility (identity document and school certificate).

Prize terms: eligibility, checks and payment
  • €100 for the winner of the overall ranking, and €100 for the winner of the ranking of secondary school students eligible for IOAI 2027, subject to proof of eligibility. One person can receive only one prize: if the same contestant tops both rankings, the student prize goes to the next student.
  • Before the final results are published, each contestant in line for one of the two €100 prizes has a video call in which they explain their solution and answer the organizers' questions. If they decline, or if the organizers have reason to believe the rules were not followed, the prize goes to the next contestant.
  • The prize is paid in euros (€100), by bank transfer or PayPal, within what the law and our payment methods allow. Any currency conversion or receiving fees are borne by the winner. If the winner cannot receive it, in particular because of international sanctions, the prize goes to the next contestant; rankings and medals do not change.
  • For a winner under 18, the prize is paid to their legal guardian, with the guardian's written consent.
  • "Eligible for IOAI 2027" means: enrolled in secondary school (or the equivalent in your country) on December 1, 2026, and under 20 on the first day of IOAI 2027. This is what you declare when you tick the box at registration.
  • To receive a prize, the winner sends an identity document (name, date of birth, country). For the student prize, they also send a school certificate for the current school year issued by their school, which proves their enrolment on December 1, 2026. These documents are used only for this check and are deleted once the prize is paid.
  • The organizers, the author of the problems and anyone who had access to the problems before the contest cannot receive a prize. They may take part outside the rankings.
  • Ties are broken by the time of the submission that reached the final score: the earlier one wins.
  • A prize must be claimed within 30 days after the final results are published; after that, it goes to the next contestant.
  • Any tax obligations related to the prize are the winner's responsibility.
  • If you wish to be able to prove your good faith in case of doubt, you may record your screen during the contest. It is not required.
  • If an event beyond our control prevents the contest from running properly (prolonged platform outage, leaked problems, cyberattack…), the organizer, Artix Technologies, may postpone or cancel it, or remove a problem from scoring. Its decisions on cheating are final once appeals have been reviewed.
  • Additional prizes may be announced.

Questions

›Who can take part?

Anyone, at any age and level. The IOAI 2027 ranking only includes eligible students, who declare it when registering.

›What do I need to know?

Python, and the basics of machine learning. The training path covers everything you need, from the start.

›What equipment do I need?

A computer and an internet connection. The free GPU of Google Colab is enough for every problem.

›Can I use pretrained models?

Only the ones provided with each problem. Other pretrained models and external datasets are not allowed.

›What if my connection drops?

Your submissions are kept, and you can continue as soon as you are back, until the end of the contest. The contest is not extended.

›When are the results published?

Provisional results right after the contest. You then have 48 hours to send an appeal. Final results (rankings and medals) are published within two weeks, after the video calls with the contestants in line for the €100 prizes.
